R.I.P. Patrick McGoohan and Ricardo Montalban

Fango learned this afternoon that two more great actors have left us.
Patrick McGoohan is best known to horror fans as Dr. Paul Ruth in David Cronenberg's 1981 classic, SCANNERS, while general audiences will remember his performance as THE PRISONER.

Ricardo Montalban struck a chord with readers of our sister mag, STARLOG for his portrayal of STAR TREK's villainous Khan, while his early work included appearances on ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS.

Both men died of natural causes. McGoohan was 80, Montalban, 88.

    Montalban epitomized the suave host image; and he did a great job in Wrath of Khan! he will be missed

    Patrick McGoohan passed away on January 13th, and was 80 years old. A day later, Ricardo Montalban also passed away. He was 88 years old. The two well known actors will be remembered for their extraordinary performances on stage, theatre, movies and television series.     It is the end of an era for the passing of Patrick McGoohan, I was only 10 when I saw the first airing of The Prisioner, but that famous line from the intro "I will not be pushed,filed,stamped,.." guided my life as much as possible to be individualistic as possible! Thanks Patrick for making a difference!

    A sad loss.I grew up on Patrick McGoohan in SECRET AGENT and THE PRISONER.What a great voice he had.A very unique talent,very memorable.He always fought to bring programing of quality to the small screen.His feature films were offbeat,he mixed it up a lot.ICE STATION ZEBRA,SCANNERS,BRAVEHEART,all very different,all great stuff. Ricardo Montalban was so much more than "Mr.Rourke".He was on the ground floor in the fight to bring parts with depth to Latino actors.His roles were quite varied,everything from the magical FANTASY ISLAND host to the well defined Khan on STAR TREK,from boxers to soldiers to cowboys,he played 'em all,and always well.He'll be sorely missed. Rest In Peace gentlemen.

    I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of both Patrick McGoohan and Ricardo Montalban. These two men did what is probably the highest aspiration of any human beings could do. They touched millions and millions of lives through their craft. God bless both of you!
