Munster is just as enthusiastic, saying, “The shoot was really rad and one-of-a-kind. I remember being busy nonstop from start to finish. A lot of the fabrication of props, and the toys for that matter, had to be completed on location in Italy, due to a time crunch before we left LA. With only a month to prep three films before heading out, there was simply not enough time to finish everything that needed to be done. Luckily, we had William at the helm. He was wonderful to work with, and made the shoot one of the best experiences for the American and Italian crews.”
The mutual respect is abundant, with Butler quick to praise Munster and the efforts and energy of everyone involved in the shoot. “I was blessed with an amazing cast and crew, including Gage, who created really cool Demonic Toys for the film. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we put together. I’m really happy with the film thus far.”
Good times and hard work weren’t the only things afoot in the castle, however. When we last brought you news on DEMONIC TOYS 2 (see item here), Butler was looking forward to doing some ghost hunting there, and it seems the crew got more than they bargained for. “Looking for ghosts was a daily and nightly occurrence that truly paid off,” he says. “And before anyone accuses me of spin, I welcome you to speak with the other cast and crew. The castle is without a doubt haunted. I believe it was actually featured on one of the ghost-hunting television shows.
“My personal experience was that I finished shooting at the end of one night, and went to the massive stone bedroom that Charles had me staying in. It was one of the few nights when I went to my room without hanging out at the dinner table with everyone. My room was very far from all the action. The castle actually has 2,000 rooms, so getting lost isn’t hard. I went into mine, lit a fire and pushed the couch in front of the fireplace—which is big enough to stand in with ease. I flopped down, and all of a sudden there was a huge pounding on the bathroom door. BAM! BAM! BAM! I froze. I’m such a huge chicken when it comes to stuff like that. I just sat for a moment waiting for some crewmember to come out and reveal himself, never considering for a second that it could be anything but that. Finally, I sucked it up and went to open the door, only to find that no one was there. To best visualize my reaction after that, just imagine that shot in THE WIZARD OF OZ where the Cowardly Lion runs down that long hall, leaps out the window and keeps running.”
In addition to Butler, actress Selene (MY BLOODY VALENTINE) Luna, who plays Lilith DeMarque in the film, had her own ghostly encounters. “I’m definitely a skeptic,” she says, “but the vibes in Castle Giove were undeniable. So much so that it didn’t take much to get into character. It was easy to find yourself alone, wandering the many halls, but truthfully, I never felt alone. There was always a sense of someone watching you, but the mysterious energies never felt hostile or negative. My personal ghostly encounters were all captured as orbs in my photographs. It was almost impossible to take a photo without orbs appearing in the shot.”
Fango readers were promised more explicit horrors in the film itself, and Munster says he came through: “Heck, yeah! But I always get worried saying that, because I myself am a huge fan of the genre and of the first film, and I don’t want people to think we’re just throwing blood everywhere without a story. This is actually a really fun film with great characters, and all the blood in the film is appropriate for every given situation.”

God I hope this is good. I'm a huge fan of Empire and the Golden Age of Full Moon, but they really went down the toilet in the late '90's early '00's. And Puppet Master vs. Demonice Toys was an abomination. But Evil Bong was a turn in the right direction, and everything I've heard about this has made me pretty excited for it.
